Anzac Day Dawn Service - Hobart

A Dawn Service will be held at the Hobart Cenotaph. ANZAC was the name given to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey early on the morning of 25 April 1915 during the First World War (1914-1918). As a result, one day in the year has involved the whole of Australia in solemn ceremonies of remembrance, gratitude and national pride for all our men and women who have fought and died in all wars. That day is ANZAC Day - 25 April. A Dawn Service will be held at the Cenotaph to remember the ANZACs and other War Veterans who fought for Australia.

The restaurant, outdoor dining terrace and cellar door are perched directly above the steeply sloping vineyard and have sweeping water views of the estuary of the Coal River Valley and the vineyard below.
3. Meadowbank Estate Vineyard Restaurant Meadowbank Estate is a cellar door, vineyard and restaurant at Cambridge, east of Hobart. Cambridge is 15 minutes’ drive east of Hobart (14 kilometres). Meadowbank Estate’s 10 hectares of vines overlooks the Coal River Valley wine region. You can sample and purchase a range of acclaimed, cool climate wines at the cellar door, including intense pinot noirs, crisp, dry aromatics and medal-winning chardonnays. Choose from the seasonal a la carte menu in Meadowbank’s award-winning restaurant. You can sample wines with a special menu of smaller dishes, and create your own wine matching experience. The restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping vineyard and water views. You can also dine al fresco on the flagstone terrace or cosy-up by the roaring fire in the cooler months.
4. Moorilla Moorilla Refined wines are produced at Mona on the banks of the Derwent River near Hobart. The 3.5 ha site is Tasmania’s oldest contemporary vineyard and celebrated 50 years of vintage in 2012. Moorilla has two wine styles: The Muse Series focuses on complexity and employs traditional techniques for a more traditional result. The Praxis Series shows traits typical of new-world winemaking.
5. Mures Gourmet Products Mures Fish Centre is a Hobart institution, situated right on the bustling fishermans wharf next to the boats that bring in so much of its stock in trade. As well as dining in - at the al la carte restaurant upstairs, or the fishing-boat level family bistro, there is a range of seafood delicacies you can buy to take back to your accommodation or as you tour the island. These include smoked salmon pates, terrines, roulades and a range of classic seafood soups.
6. Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are located in Hobart, Tasmania’s harbour side capital city. Established in 1818 on the western banks of the Derwent River, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens covers 13.5 hectares and showcases 6,500 species and varieties of plants, including over 400 Tasmanian species.
7. Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) celebrates Tasmania’s history, art and culture (Note: Closed for renovation from 12 November 2012 until early 2013). TMAG is located in Hobart’s central business district, close to the city’s waterfront. You can join a free guided tour or browse the galleries to experience TMAG's rich blend of permanent collections, touring and temporary exhibitions and special displays.
8. The Italian Pantry The Italian Pantry retail, cafe, restaurant and cooking school offers culinary experiences in North Hobart. Capturing the best of Italy's 20 regions, The Italian Pantry cafe is a local favourite for great Italian coffee, honest lunches with superb Italian wine and imported beer. 1. Derwent Entertainment Centre The Derwent Entertainment Centre is multi-purpose stadium and entertainment venue at Glenorchy, near Hobart. Glenorchy is ten minutes’ drive north of Hobart’s city centre (eight kilometres/five miles). The Derwent Entertainment Centre is one of Tasmania’s major entertainment venues, with a seating capacity of 5,400 and general admission capacity of 7,500. The Centre is a venue for major concerts, conventions, exhibitions, sporting events, trade shows and special events and is also a ticketing venue for Ticketmaster. The venue has extensive car parking and can be accessed by Metro buses from Hobart.
2. Putters Adventure Golf Putters Adventure Golf is a miniature golf complex at Moonah, north of Hobart. Moonah is five minutes’ drive from Hobart’s central business district (five kilometres/three miles). You can play a round of mini-golf on Putters Adventure Golf's all-weather putting courses – including the 18-hole Mountain and the Mill – an indoor course spread over three levels and featuring a Tasmanian rainforest display. Test your skill on greens with challenging banks and turns, sand traps, rough turf and rock hazards or try a game of virtual golf in the two full-swing golf simulators. After your round you can relax at the Clubhouse Café to enjoy tasty snacks, espresso coffee and creamy Tasmanian ice cream while your children have fun in the nearby Adventure Playground.
3. Salamanca Arts Centre The Salamanca Arts Centre is a vibrant arts community located at Hobart’s Salamanca Place. Salamanca Place is close to Hobart’s waterfront, a short walk from the city’s central business district. The Centre includes artist studios, galleries, venues, retail outlets, arts organisations and public spaces, housed in the historic sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place. 5. Theatre Royal Tasmania’s Theatre Royal, in Hobart, is Australia's oldest working theatre. The Theatre Royal is Australia’s only remaining example of a Victorian bijou-style theatre. Built in 1834 as a permanent theatre for the rapidly expanding colony, it initially offered entertainment ranging from music hall to cock fights. Leading Australian and international artists have performed here over the decades, including Laurence Olivier, Noel Coward, Lillian Gish, Marcel Marceau, Roy ‘Mo’ Rene, Ruth Cracknell, John Bell and Hugo Weaving. A contemporary centre for performing arts, the Theatre presents an annual program of live theatre, music, dance and entertainment.
6. Zone 3 Laser Games - Hobart Zone 3 Laser Games - Hobart is an indoor Laser Tag complex providing hours of entertainment. 1. Cadbury Cadbury is located at suburban Claremont approximately 12 kilometres north of the city of Hobart. At the Cadbury visitor centre, an access fee of AUD7.50 per adult (children AUD4) entitles you to view an informative DVD in a theatrette, where you can talk to guides about the chocolate-making process. At the end of the viewing, each person will receive a small gift of chocolates and be invited to relax in the café and browse the great range of gifts, t-shirts, souvenirs and, of course, chocolates. Tours of factory itself no longer operate.
2. Salamanca Market Salamanca Market takes place in Hobart every Saturday (except Christmas Day) between0830 and 1500 – rain, hail or shine. At Hobart’s popular outdoor market you’ll join the locals for a shopping experience with a difference. Salamanca Market is one of those special places where you actually meet the people who create, make or grow what they sell.

1. aart. Gallery of Fine Art Aart. Gallery of Fine Art, in central Hobart, specialises in exhibiting work by Tasmanian artists. The gallery is located in Macquarie Street, a short distance from Hobart’s central business district and waterfront. Aart exhibits work in a range of media, including drawing, oils, acrylic, sculpture and photography. The gallery’s intimate space provides an opportunity for broad range of Tasmanian artists to show their work. Artists to have exhibited at Aart include Wayne Edwards, Jessica McLaughlan, Mary Lou Wright, Francine Smith, Rodney Lea, Rebecca Brogan, sculptor Kathryn Hodges and fine art photographer Paul Barrington.
2. Allport Library and Museum Of Fine Arts Hobart’s Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts is a heritage collection of colonial artefacts. The Museum is located within the State Library of Tasmania in central Hobart. The Library and Museum are housed in a permanent display of Georgian-style rooms. The collection includes colonial paintings and prints, Georgian silver and glass and fine English, French and Chinese porcelain. There are displays of mahogany and walnut furniture dating from 1680, including excellent examples of Chippendale, Sheraton and Hepplewhite. The Library features fine and rare books, manuscripts and photographs dating from the 1800s.
3. Anglesea Barracks Anglesea Barracks in Hobart, built in the 1800’s, now houses the Military Museum of Tasmania. Governor Macquarie ordered these barracks built when he visited the colony in 1811. When the last British regiment left Tasmania in 1870 the buildings were variously used as a school, reformatory, a home for old women and a gymnasium. With the federation of Australia in 1901, the barracks became Commonwealth property and passed back to full military control, in which they have remained ever since.
4. Art Mob-Aboriginal Fine Art Gallery Art Mob, in Hobart’s Hunter Street arts precinct, is Tasmania's only dedicated Aboriginal art gallery. Hunter Street is located on the waterfront, a five-minute walk from the city. Most of Australia’s indigenous communities are represented at Art Mob, including the Western Desert, Balgo Hills, the Kimberley, Torres Strait and Tiwi Islands and Arnhem Land. Work by some of Australia’s most collectable artists, including Gloria Petyarre from the Western Desert, Dennis Nona from the Torres Strait Islands and Sally Gabori from Mornington Island, are exhibited and sold at Art Mob.
5. Carnegie Gallery Hobart’s Carnegie Gallery features a public exhibition program showcasing contemporary art, craft and design. The Gallery is located in Argyle Street, in the city’s central business district. The Carnegie Gallery is owned and operated by the Hobart City Council, and runs an annual program focusing on high-quality, innovative exhibitions. Working actively with the Tasmanian arts sector, the Gallery provides opportunities for Tasmanian contemporary artists, designers and curators to exhibit. The Carnegie Gallery also supports national and international touring exhibitions.
6. Cascade Brewery The Cascade Brewery is Australia’s oldest continuously operating brewery, in South Hobart, Tasmania. The brewery is located in the foothills of Mount Wellington, five minutes’ drive from Hobart’s central business district. Cascade Brewery produces a range of fine Tasmanian beers and soft drinks. You can take a two-hour brewery tour to see all aspects of the beer-making process – from malting and brewing to packaging. Bookings are essential, and the tour involves plenty of stair climbing, but your efforts will be rewarded by thirst-quenching free samples at the end.
7. Colville Street Art Gallery The Colville Street Art Gallery features contemporary work by artists from Tasmania and mainland Australia. The Gallery is located in Battery Point, a five-minute drive from Hobart’s central business district. The Colville Street Art Gallery’s program of monthly exhibitions includes works on paper, paintings, photography and sculpture. Represented artists include painter Peter Gouldthorpe, printmaker Milan Milojevic, sculptors Gerhard Mausz and Sandra Jenkins and jewellery designer Carmen Blyth, among many others. All artists represented by the Gallery demonstrate contemporary art practice through works in modern landscape, city and streetscape, interiors, still life and abstract.
8. Designed Objects Tasmania (dot.) Increasingly, Tasmania is gaining recognition for the excellence and execution of design, especially its fine furniture made with native timbers. If you have an interest in good design - from pots to playgrounds - phone and arrange to see the work produced at this co-operative, which provides workshop machinery, kilns and studio space for members.
9. John Elliott Classics Museum This antiquities museum at the University of Tasmania in Hobart is rated as the best such collection in Australia after the Nicholson Museum in the University of Sydney.
10. Lady Franklin Gallery and Ancanthe Park Lady Franklin Gallery, situated in Tasmania's capital Hobart, was built in 1842. This gallery in the Hobart suburb of Lenah Valley was built by Lady Jane Franklin, wife of Sir John Franklin, who was governor of Tasmania at the time.
11. Maritime Museum of Tasmania The Maritime Museum of Tasmania, in Hobart, is dedicated to Tasmania’s rich maritime heritage. The Museum is located in the Carnegie Building, at Sullivan’s Cove, a short walk from Hobart’s central business district. Tasmania’s maritime history is explored in the Museum’s extensive permanent collection and program of exhibitions. Historic artefacts and interpretative displays explore the history of Tasmanian ship building, whaling and its role in naval warfare. Features of the collection include navigational instruments, historic dinghies and treasures such as the hatchway from Joseph Conrad’s barque Otago and the eagle stern-board from the 1856 American whaler Islander.
12. Markree House Museum and Gardens Markree House Museum and Gardens, Hobart, explores the early 20th century arts and history. Markree Museum is a historical jewel located in central Hobart, where visitors can explore the art, decorative arts and social history of the early 20th century.
13. Masterpiece @ IXL Fine Art & Antiques Masterpiece@IXL Fine Art Gallery is situated in Hobart’s Hunter Street arts precinct, southern Tasmania. Specialising in Australian fine art, the gallery features colonial through to contemporary pieces. Wander in and view the fine collection at Masterpiece@IXL. The high quality works are produced by artists from around the world including many prominent Australian artists. Pieces on display are also available for purchase. Gallery Director, W Nevin Hurst has been part of the Australian art scene for over 30 years. Featured artists include David Bromley, Charles Conder, Haughton Forrest, John Glover, WB Gould, Hans Heysen, Ken Knight, Ken Done, Tim Storrier, Sidney Nolan, Gloria Petyarr, WC Piguenit, Lloyd Rees and many more.
14. Museum of Old and New Art - MONA Museum of Old and New Art - MONA opened in Hobart in January 2011. It houses a collection that ranges from ancient Egyptian mummies to some of the world’s most infamous and thought-provoking contemporary art. The building’s subterranean design and the owner’s unconventional and challenging curatorial approach make it a must-see for any visitor to Australia. MONA takes a different approach to interpretation: there are no labels or wall texts. Instead, visitors are given a touch-screen device, which is sensitive to their location in the museum – showing them works in their proximity. Called the ‘O’, it allows visitors to select the level of information they need and to vote for works they ‘hate’ or ‘love’.
15. Narryna Heritage Museum Narryna is a beautiful Georgian home, now open to the public, set in an old-world garden, in the heart of Battery Point, Hobart's original village. The home was builit over a three-year period by sea captain Andrew Haigh, who purchased two acres of land from the Reverand Robert Knopwood (the colony's first, and clergyman). At the time it was one of three houses in Battery Point and the land extended through to Salamanca Square and Haigh's warehouse. Former owners include George Washington Walker, a Quaker missionary and founder of the Hobart Savings Bank.
16. Off Centre Off Centre, in Hobart, is a gallery and shop featuring work by Tasmanian ceramic artists. The gallery is located in the Salamanca Arts Centre, close to Hobart’s waterfront and a short walk from the city’s central business district. Off Centre is managed by a cooperative of nine professional Tasmanian artists. The eight ceramicists and one bronze artist exhibit and sell a diverse range of work at Off Centre. You can choose from a range of artefacts including hand-painted tableware, elegant pierced porcelain vessels, and ceramic and bronze sculptures such as bronze Tasmanian devils, raku-fired fish and architectural sculptures. One of the artists is always on hand at the gallery to impart expert knowledge of the work on display. Off Centre also manages a small adjoining gallery, which exhibits the work of emerging and established local artists in a variety of media.
17. Penitentiary Chapel Historic Site The Penitentiary Chapel Historic Site in Hobart incorporates more than 160 years of Tasmanian penal history. Building a church above solitary confinement cells was Colonial Architect John Lee Archer’s innovative solution to the need for both as Hobart’s convict population continued to grow in the 1820’s. From 1857 part of the Church housed the Tasmanian Supreme Court, while more recently it has been used as a Magistrate’s Court.
18. Quoll Artists Gallery The Quoll Artists Gallery, in Hobart’s Salamanca Place, specialises in work by Tasmanian artists. The gallery is located in the Salamanca Arts Centre, close to Hobart’s waterfront and a short walk from the city’s central business district. Quoll is a co-operative of nine professional Tasmanian artists, and the gallery features fine art, jewellery, textiles and ceramics. Choose from fine art paintings in watercolour, oils, acrylic and mixed media - ranging in style from traditional to contemporary. Select your own piece of handmade jewellery - including work crafted from fresh water pearls and abalone, antique china and ceramic. A range of other craft items is also available at Quoll - including silk scarves, pottery and handmade knives.
19. Rosny Historic Centre The Rosny Historic Centre is a cultural centre, gallery and museum on Hobart’s eastern shore. Located at Rosny Park, the Centre is a 10-minute drive (five kilometres) from Hobart’s central business district. The Centre includes the Schoolhouse Gallery, Barn and Cottage Museum. The Gallery is a replica of an 1890s-era Tasmanian schoolhouse, and is the only public gallery on Hobart’s eastern shore. The Schoolhouse Gallery features exhibitions of contemporary and community art and historical displays. The sandstone Barn was built around 1815 and is one of the oldest buildings of its type in Australia. The Barn was redeveloped in 2006 as a visual and performing arts space for an ongoing series of concerts, exhibitions and workshops. The Rosny Farm Cottage, built around 1850, houses the Rosny Collection. This collection of realia forms the bulk of the Rosny Cottage display which has been designed as a representation of colonial life.
20. Runnymede Runnymede is an elegant colonial house situated in New Town just north of Hobart city. It is located in a lovely garden that overlooks New Town Bay on the River Derwent. It was built around 1836 for Robert Pitcairn, the first lawyer to qualify in the colony and a leading campaigner against the transportation of convicts from Britain. He named the house Cairn Lodge. When Captain Charles Bayley bought the house in 1864 he named it Runnymede after his favourite ship. The Bayley family lived in the house for the next 100 years. The National Trust has restored and furnished the house to its original elegance, and has included a rich collection of whaling and maritime material which were interests of the family.
21. Shot Tower - The Built in 1870 for the production of shot, this sandstone tower rises 48 metres above the banks of the Derwent, affording spectacular views up, down and across the river. The tower is 10 metres in diameter at the base and 3.9 metres at the top - the walls a metre thick at the bottom thin out to .45 centimetres at the top. Molten lead was dropped from top to bottom of the hollow tower and its rapid descent and cooling roughly shaped it into pellets.
22. Tasmanian Cricket Museum and Bellerive Oval Tours The Tasmanian Cricket Museum, at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval, showcases Tasmania’s cricketing history. Bellerive is 10 minutes’ drive east of the Hobart city centre, on the eastern shore of the Derwent River. At the Tasmanian Cricket Museum you can discover Tasmania’s rich cricket heritage from settlement to the present day. The museum features a collection of artefacts and memorabilia coupled with innovative displays, video and state-of-the-art interactive technology.
23. Tasmanian Transport Museum The Tasmanian Transport Museum in Hobart includes Tasmanian railways history displays, tram cars and locomotives. The New Town Railway Station has been rebuilt at the museum and a new platform added. The station masters’ office and signal room have been retained and restored to original condition. The former ladies waiting room and store have been developed as a display area of relics and photographs featuring the history of Tasmanian railways.
Historical Sites and Heritage Locations (2)
1. Kangaroo Bluff Historic Site Kangaroo Bluff Historic Site at Bellerive is a gun emplacement and fort built in 1880. In 1873, someone thought they spotted two Russian warships on the River Derwent. The gun emplacement and fort were built in 1880 as a result.
2. May Queen Floating in Constitution Dock in Hobart is Australia’s oldest sail trading vessel SV May Queen. Built before the development of roads and land transport routes this type of vessel helped to establish and supply coastal communities and industry in the south east of Tasmania. The May Queen is recognised internationally as an authentic floating example of the sea craft technology of the mid 1800s.
Landmarks and Buildings (1)
1. International Wall of Friendship - The The International Wall of Friendship was conceived as a lasting memorial to the bonds of friendship and goodwill of many nations who have made Tasmania their home and their contribution and committment to the progress and well being of the State. It is located in the sunken garden at the Commonwealth Government Centre in Hobart, the capital city of the Australian island State of Tasmania. It is believed to be the first project of its kind in the world being officially declared open in October 1992.
Natural Attractions (3)
1. Mt Nelson and Truganini Reserve Mount Nelson and Truganini Reserve is a conservation area south of Hobart. Mount Nelson is 10 minutes’ drive from Hobart (five kilometres) en route to Kingston. Originally the site of one of a chain of signal stations that linked Hobart Town with Port Arthur, Mount Nelson is now the location for a restaurant, picnic area and lookout in addition to one of Hobart’s oldest residential areas. Here, you can enjoy sweeping views of Hobart and Storm Bay from the lookout or call into Mt Nelson Signal Station Restaurant for great coffee or a delicious light lunch.
2. Seven Mile Beach Seven Mile Beach is a coastal reserve, a short drive east of Hobart. The Beach is 20 minutes (18 kilometres/11 miles) from the city, close to Hobart Airport. Seven Mile Beach is a long crescent of sand overlooking Frederick Henry Bay. Curving along a natural sand spit, the beach extends east from the Seven Mile Beach residential area to Sandy Point. You can take long beach walks here, go horse riding through the pine forest, or go swimming, sailboarding or surfing. Beyond the beach, undulating dunes are covered with coastal grasses, native and pine forests and there are day use areas with picnic facilities, showers and toilets. There is also a general store at the western end of the beach, children’s playground and a range of holiday accommodation.
3. Wellington Park Wilderness on Hobarts doorstep, Wellington Park provides walking, climbing, abseiling, cycling and sightseeing opportunities less than half an hours drive from the city.

1. Antiques - Kent and Kent Kent and Kent Antiques, in Hobart, offers a range of authentic antiques. The store is located beside Constitution Dock on Hobart’s waterfront, a short walk from the city's central business district. Kent and Kent has a fine selection of authentic antiques, including 18th and 19th century English and Tasmanian colonial cedar and Huon pine furniture. The collection also includes clocks, estate jewellery, silver, glass and ceramics, early curios and relics as well as maritime antiques and instruments. Kent and Kent Antiques specialise in the purchase and sale of genuine antiques – and all pieces in the collection date from 100 to 250 years old.
2. Antiques Market - The The Antiques Market, in central Hobart, specialises in antiques, art and collectables. The store is located in Elizabeth Street, in the city’s central business district. At the Antiques Market you can browse through two floors of collectable items, including furniture, jewellery, glass, tableware and original artwork. A huge range of functional and decorative items is on display, exhibited by over 15 antiques dealers. The Antiques Market also offers restoration and upholstery services and custom made traditional or antique-style furniture, crafted from Tasmanian speciality timbers, can also be arranged.
3. Astrolabe Booksellers Astrolabe Booksellers, in Hobart’s Salamanca Place, offers rare, antiquarian and second-hand books. Astrolabe is located in a refurbished 19th century warehouse close to Hobart’s waterfront and a short walk from the city’s central business district. Astrolabe Booksellers is one of Tasmania's two members of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Antiquarian Booksellers. The store specialises in Tasmanian, Australian, Antarctic and maritime books, in addition to general stock. You can browse the store’s collection, or search for books and make your selection on-line. Astrolabe also produces a number of catalogues each year and can help you locate hard-to-find titles.
4. Craigow Vineyard Craigow Vineyard is a picturesque 11 hectare vineyard at Cambridge in the Coal River Valley. The vineyard was established in 1989 and has already produced a number of award winning wines. Current varieties are pinot noir, chardonnay, riesling, and gewurztraminer.
5. Frogmore Creek Wines Frogmore Creek Wines is located in the Coal River Valley Region just 10 minutes from Hobart. Our straight-forward, down-to-earth winemaking techniques are aimed at producing wines with clear and characteristic varietal fruit flavours. We produce a wide range of award-winning cool climate styles under our Frogmore Creek and 42 Degrees South labels. Our Frogmore Creek label is the pinnacle of our efforts; the ultimate combination in matching fitting varieties to true cool climate viticulture, following through with master winemaking. As 42˚S is the central latitude of Tasmania this name reflects our position in crafting fruit-driven wines from grapes sourced from throughout the state.
6. Island Markets Island Market is a new indoor market, which specialises in food, new products and craft. These include seafood (live, fresh and frozen), meat, groceries, prepared foods, fresh produce, clothing, manchester, homewares, tools, garden plants, Tasmanian wine and olive products. Tasmania's largest new clothing liquidator operates from one of our two main buildings. The complex includes an olive processing plant, which has a customer viewing window. Our heated building is clean and spacious with wide aisles between the rows of stalls. There is plenty of on-site free parking for cars and buses in our 2.2 hectare paved site. The Hobart bike track also passes by our premises. We are currently open from 1000 to 1600 every Thursday Friday, Saturday and Sunday (except Easter, Christmas and New Year's Day).
7. Lark Distillery - The When junipers for gin proved hard to find, Bill Lark of The Lark Distillery tried making a liqueur using Tasmania's native mountain pepper berries. The result is a smooth Bush Liqueur - a truly unique taste of Tasmania. The Bush Liqueur is also blended with another local product, Gillespies Ginger Beer, to make 2UP, a ginger beer with kick.
8. Pembroke Estate Vineyard Pembroke Vineyard is located at the entrance to the Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania on approximately one hectare. The vineyard predominantly grows Pinot Noir along with a very small range of classic white varieties including Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard is a certified plot and has produced clonal material for distribution to the fledgling Tasmanian wine industry in its establishment phase. The vineyard was established in 1980.

1. Claremont Golf Club The Claremont Golf Club is a metropolitan course north of Hobart in southern Tasmania. Claremont is a suburb of Hobart, 10 minutes’ drive north of the city centre (12 kilometres). The Claremont Golf Club features undulating fairways with water views from nine holes. The course has watered grass greens and tees, a few hills and bunkers and players here will enjoy some excellent par three holes. The Derwent River is a constant backdrop and also acts as a boundary for a number of fairways.
2. Golf Park Hobart Golf Park Hobart is a golf driving range situated opposite the Hobart airport in Cambridge. It is ten minutes from Hobart city and walking distance from Hobart International Airport. The range features 22 undercover bays, a 300 metre range, club hire and tuition from PGA teaching professional. It is open seven days a week includiing public holidays.
3. Llanherne Golf Club Llanherne Golf Club north-east of Hobart is a nine-hole 18 tees course designed by Peter Toogood. Officially opened in March 1994, this links type course was designed by Peter Toogood, and features 18 tees with gently undulating fairways to 9 large greens. Two lakes and numerous bunkers add to the challenge.
4. New Town Bay Golf Club The New Town Bay Golf Club is a nine-hole metropolitan golf course north of Hobart. The Club is located in the riverside suburb of Lutana, 10 minutes north of the city (six kilometres/four miles). Formerly known as the Ez Risdon Golf Club, the New Town Bay Golf Club is a private course, open to members, associates and members of affiliate clubs. Features of the course include a challenging ninth hole—a 119-metre downhill par three with challenging bunkers surrounding the green. The Club hosts a Ladies competition each Thursday and Men’s competition on Saturdays, and there is a licensed bar in the clubhouse for members - opening hours are displayed on the noticeboard.
5. Richmond Golf Club Richmond Golf Club is a challenging nine-hole course with spectacular water views. Views over Barilla Bay, Pittwater and Midway Point are a feature of this course.. Visitors and new members are welcome. Handicap required to play in competitions. The club house has bar and catering available on competition days. Mens competition Thursday and Saturday and Ladies competition Wednesday.
6. Rosny Park Public Golf Course Rosny Park Public Golf Course is a nine-hole course situated on Hobart’s Eastern Shore, near Eastlands Shopping Centre. Short but very attractive public course which has been the venue of the Australian Public Course Championships. Native tree-lined fairways and views over the Derwent River make for an enjoyable round of golf.
7. Royal Hobart Golf Club The Royal Hobart Golf course is a championship 18 hole course East of Hobart in Southern Tasmania. Located at Seven Mile Beach, the course is 20 minutes South-East of Hobart (18 kilometres).
8. Tasmania Golf Club - The The Tasmania Golf Club is an 18-hole course at Barilla Bay, east of Hobart. Barilla Bay is close to Hobart airport, fifteen minutes (20 kilometres/12 miles) from the city centre. With spectacular views over Barilla Bay, this championship course has many superb holes and undulating fairways lined with towering trees. Located on a promontory jutting into the Bay, the course is surrounded by water on three sides. You can enjoy a challenging round of golf here—including the third signature hole—a 527-metre par five which is which is considered one of the best par fives in Australia.

1. Moo Brew Moo Brew is a state-of-the-art micro-brewery at Mona, Hobart. It sits on a private peninsula on the Derwent River at Berridale, 15 minutes north west of Hobart’s city centre. A jetty provides private and charter access to the site and there is a fast catamaran service from the Hobart waterfront. 2. 2013 City of Hobart Art Prize Annual exhibition featuring contemporary visual arts, craft and design works from around Australia that were entered into the The City of Hobart Art Prize. The competition attracts entries from artists, designers and craftspeople nationwide and brings together contemporary visual arts, craft and design practice in a single exhibition at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
3. A New Room This exhibition celebrates International Day of People with Disability. Three professional artists will collaborate with three artists with disability to produce a large-scale installation of a series of ‘rooms’. All in store at the annual Art From Trash community art exhibition where artists young and old provide their take on the creative reuse of “waste” materials in the visual artworks on display.
5. Aspirations A standout on the Cosmos calendar is their annual art exhibition which showcases the amazing works created by Cosmos clients. This year's theme is entitled 'Aspirations' and will feature mixed media, drawings, video art, built objects, fibre art, aerosol art, photography, ceramics and performance art. Cosmos is exhibiting these art pieces at a free public exhibition at the Rosny Schoolhouse Gallery. The exhibition aims to challenge pervasive social discourses that reinforce exclusion of people with a disability.
6. Behind every war there are good women Exhibition - Rosny The Exhibition features poems by Australian and New Zealand female writers. Fourteen are from across Australia and eight from New Zealand. They range from well known poets to others who write poetry read by family and friends.
7. Blooming Tasmania Blooming Tasmania is a collection of floral shows, festivals and garden open days held throughout Tasmania between September and May. Blooming Tasmania is a celebration of the State's Tasmanian gardens and diverse horticultural and botanical delights in one of the world's most growable climates.
8. CAPO Powerlifting Nationals 2013 This is the primary event on the CAPO calendar and it promises to be the biggest and the best powerlifting event ever held in Australia. Guest appearances have been confirmed from a number of international superstar lifters such as the great Russian Andrey Malanichev, Eric Lilliebridge, Brandon Lilly, Kirill Sarychev, Sam Byrd, Richard Hawthorne “the Ant”, and Anna Karrila. More internationals superstars are still to be confirmed.
9. Change Exhibition This is the 9th annual Artfully Queer exhibition presented by TasPride. It will consist of a collective artwork from the group plus many individual works in a wide range of media, including iPhone stories.

12. Conversations in the Dark What is the stuff of thought? In recent history there has been an assumption that thoughts are words, and that our minds are some sort of symbol processing machine, like a very powerful computer. But we don’t just think in words, we also think through imagery and feelings and bodily sensations. Similarly we are all not a single conscious ‘I’, but a multitude of voices chattering in the darkness of the unconscious. Ironically this work is software based, constructed from hand crafted computer code, the sound and imagery are generated in real time. Through immersion you are invited to contemplate the beauty of what goes on inside your head.

21. Intuitive Imaginatives Intuitive Imaginatives is a two dimensional visual art exhibition, and seeks to create works that look outside the traditions of high culture for inspiration. Rachel Ireland-Meyers celebrates the natural and figurative worlds by creating daring, yet graceful landscapes, rich and bold in colour, imbued with imagination and soul. Each artwork is intuitive in that it emerges not out of any preconceived idea, but rather through the unique process of spontaneously layering free flowing colour and raw markings with carefully represented forms. Each artwork is a celebration of the present moment and Rachel finds great satisfaction and joy in allowing her paintings to emerge naturally and organically as she experiments with colour.
22. Islands to Ice Islands to Ice explores the definitions, perceptions, mythology and motivations of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. It explores the places, the people, the creatures and the phenomena that make the great southern wilderness a world of its own.
23. Karadi - Moonah Celebrate NAIDOC Week with this annual exhibition of the art and craft work by Tasmanian Aboriginal women. The show features both contemporary and traditional art and craft including contemporary applications of traditional skills.
24. Like Something Which I’ve Never Seen A new exhibition in Hobart, Like Something Which I’ve Never Seen showcases the bizarre world of thylacine sightings. Like Something Which I’ve Never Seen is the result of collaboration between Hobart photographer Rachael Duncan and writer Emily Bullock which taps into the cultures surrounding sightings of the thylacine which continue to pepper the contemporary Tasmanian landscape. The exhibition examines not so much the thylacine itself as the sightings of the elusive animal, conveying a melancholic and haunting atmosphere.
25. Louis and Bebe Extraordinary musical theatre. Tells the tale of one couple, three lives and three deaths, featuring a soundtrack of song, pop and noise. Presented by Salamanca Arts Centre and Dark Mofo. Supported by the Goethe-Institut Australia.
26. MANSUPIAL and other odities Bizarre and wonderful masks. A constructed Mythology from a land of spirits and demons by James Barker.
27. Me-Helen Me-Helen is an exhibition of new works by Tasmanian-based artist Anna Cocks. The exhibition will include a series of drawings, photos and text that revolve around a fictional character who will be explored and developed through the body of work. Anna’s continued interest in the potential of fictive characters to inform aspects of her arts practice has compelled her to revisit the character of Helen (who first appeared during a 2009 residency in Canada) and to use her as a starting point for producing a new body of work.
28. Metal that Moves - Works by Contemporary Tasmanian Artist Blacksmiths 2013 Presented by the Tasmanian Artist Blacksmith Association Incorporated. There’s not much call for horse shoes any more or agricultural implements. The rail yards have become museums and tool factories have all mechanised. Blacksmiths have evolved with the times. The principles, the basic tools and techniques, haven’t changed in centuries. At the heart of the medium is fire. Forges are used to heat steel to a plastic state before it is physically shaped “forged” by hammer and hand tools over an anvil. Combine this with innovations in metal cut/weld fabrication technology as well as industrial machinery and the result is a burgeoning art form.
29. O-Night Come and celebrate opening night of our major public art project, Beam In Thine Own Eye. 1. Anzac Day Dawn Service - Hobart A Dawn Service will be held at the Hobart Cenotaph. ANZAC was the name given to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey early on the morning of 25 April 1915 during the First World War (1914-1918).

Art on Legs Wearable Art Show Art on Legs Wearable Art Show, provides an opportunity for international textile artists, national and state craftspeople and students to air their creativity to a wide audience. Fashion is taken to its limit into the area where the body is the canvas on which an installation, an idea, an aesthetic creation or a fine example of saleable wearables in the numerous areas of textile craft (machine embroidery, silk, felt, knitting, weaving, crochet, dyeing, collage from recycled products, and any other new mediums) is exhibited to an audience for their admiration, appreciation, inspiration and possible sale, whilst at the same time giving the maker/designer/creator an opportunity to make an impact as an artist in a legitimate sense.

Australian String Quartet Like parents showing off a new child to their extended family the Australian String Quartet makes a welcome return to Hobart to introduce two new faces and a new phase in its musical development. New first violinist Kristian Winther is already familiar to the Musica Viva family, having performed with the TinAlley String Quartet in 2007, while violist Stephen King will be making his first appearance in the Musica Viva Tasmania series. Their performance features another first – Debussy’s first, and only, string quartet. In common with many of the greatest works in the repertoire its first performance by the Ysaye Quartet was not without controversy. Despite its four movements and uniquely for Debussy, its key designation, the work is a watershed in chamber music history, marking an end to the strict form and language of earlier Classical and Romantic string quartets and opening the way to a new, freer interpretation of the idiom.

Buddy 'n' Roy - Together 'n' Alone, Hobart From the producers of Buddy: The Concert, Johnny Cash: The Concert and The Class of 59, come and take a stroll down memory lane into the heady days of the fabulous 50s and the swinging 60s when Happy Days Records presents Buddy ‘n’ Roy: Together ‘n’ Alone featuring the music of never-to-be-forgotten rock ‘n’ roll idols Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly. Quite simply, the story of Roy Orbison could not be told without Buddy Holly. Both native Texans, Orbison grew up in the towns of Vernon, Fort Worth and Wink whilst Holly was born and bred in the nearby town of Lubbock. Having performed at the same local venues and shopped at the same guitar shops, the pair also wrote and recorded at the same New Mexico studios – Norman Petty Studios – which would go on to impact the future of music. The majority of Buddy’s noteworthy recordings were crafted within those studio walls, and after his tragic 1959 death, Norman Petty was tasked with adding instrumentation and production to many unfinished Holly tracks.

Chance Waters Infinity Tour 2012 was a huge year for Sydney’s Chance Waters; he released his acclaimed sophomore album Infinity which debuted at #54 on the ARIA Charts, was nominated for Unearthed Artist of the Year at the 2012 J Awards and his video for second single Maybe Tomorrow (ft. Lilian Blue) was voted #7 in the 2012 rage fifty ahead of M.I.A., Alt-J, Grimes, Tame Impala and The Temper Trap among others. Elias String Quartet Britain’s Elias String Quartet makes a much longed for return to Tasmania with three very different takes on the string quartet – from the adherence to form exemplified by Haydn to the intense emotions of the middle Beethoven quartets, and to the contemporary exploration of this most famous of chamber music combinations by Australia’s Matthew Hindson, in the world premiere of his much-anticipated third quartet. At their premiere performance in 1806 Beethoven’s Razumovsky quartets were derided by both their performers and audience as unreasonably difficult both to play and to listen to. 1. Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race It's a classic. First run in 1972 and now recognised the world over for the true challenge it is. Beginning on 27 December from Portsea Pier, Melbourne, sailors will again have the choice of tackling either the traditional 440 nautical mile ‘Westcoaster’ or the alternative 460 nautical mile ‘Eastcoaster’ races.
2. Point to Pinnacle Road Run and Walk A 21.4 kilometre recreational walk or run from Wrest Point Boardwalk to the pinnacle of Mt Wellington. Journey between two Tasmanian iconic locations, the man made Wrest Point and the stunningly majestic, natural, Mount Wellington and its surrounding tracks and amazing views. The Roberts Real Estate Point to Pinnacle run and recreational walk starts at Wrest Point car park, following Sandy Bay Road, left into Byron Street and left into Davey Street at Hotel Soho. Davey Street becomes Huon Road as it travels the route to the right turn onto Pillinger Drive and on to the pinnacle of Mount Wellington. The course is 21.4 kilometre long and just over 1,270 metres in elevation. This race is physically challenging and scenically stunning.

15. Penitentiary Chapel Ghost Tour (National Trust) Penitentiary Chapel Ghost Tour operates ghost tours of the old Penitentiary Chapel and Criminal Courts, in Hobart. The Penitentiary Chapel and Criminal Courts is one of Tasmania’s oldest and most historic buildings, started in 1831 to the design of the famous colonial architect John Lee Archer, it was to be a chapel for the adjacent Prisoners Barracks. In 1860, two wings of the buildings were converted for use as criminal courts.
